The Board meeting was called to order at 7:07 PM

Board Members In attendance: Sheila Kearns, Dave Van De Water, John Spencer, Betsy Habberfield, Laura Crosslin, Denise Koller, Judy Steron, Brian Allen, Carol Farley
Staff: Phyllis Skidmore (Librarian), Bill Budde (Russell Collection)
Guests: Alyson Grzyb
Board Members Absent: None

Additions to the agenda– Move board nominations to the top of the list.

Sheila proposed a slate of nominees for board positions to be voted on in February. She nominated Brian to start a second full term. Carol will start her first full term after completing a partial term. John and Dave will start their 2nd full terms. Bill Henry will be joining filling a term ending in 2021. Don Trachte will be joining completing Sally’s partial term ending in 2022. Alyson will join and fill another partial term vacated by Cathy Taylor until 2021.Denise made a motion to accept the slate of proposed board members. Betsy seconded. The motion carried unanimously.


---Previous meeting’s minutes – Date was corrected. Brian moved that the December minutes be approved with corrections. Denise seconded. The motion carried unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report (summary):

---Ended the year on a positive note. Surplus of $33K. Jean Miller left a bequest to the library of $17K.
---The endowment realized a 17% return generating $33K in interest and dividends.
---Advocates raised about $2.5K in 6 months of activity.
---Budget for 2020 shows a deficit of $9K
---Brian made a motion to approve the proposed 2020 budget. Dave seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.

Adult programming
---Carol will be working on this next week with Phyllis for 2020

Martha’s Book House
---No activity this past month
---Phyllis reminded folks that book sorting is an option any time the library is open – volunteers are welcome
---Sheila said we needed a decision on Book House leadership at the March meeting, if not sooner.

Librarian’s Report (summary):
---Holly is working out well
---Opening day of the craft show went well and we sold a lot. We received a commission of $110 for one day
---A nice going-away party was held for Peggy. Thanks to Denise for organizing.
---Santa was here for about 30 kids
---$1,512 was raised with the gift basket fund raiser
---Listen up Vermont checkouts were higher than normal for December
----Holly has a lineup of activities for kids not participating in JISP activities on Wednesday afternoons
---A full report written report was submitted

Gallery Report
---Dave created a press release for the Seline Skoug and several other upcoming exhibits to be distributed tomorrow to local publications
---Carol mentioned that many middle school students and some high school students will be visiting the Rockwell exhibit in Montpelier next week and later in the month

Russell Collection Report
---Things were quiet for November and December
---Bill spent time logging donations
---A full report written report was submitted

Old Business:

1. Board nominations – see above

2. Proposed slate of officers – same as existing slate. Sheila – President, Carol – Vice-President, Denise – Treasurer, John – Secretary. Brian moved to approve the slate of officers as presented. Betsy seconded. The motion was approved unanimously.

New Business:

1. Ballot petitions were passed around.

2. There was a discussion of the upcoming Annual Meeting to be held at 6:00 PM on Monday, February 3rd
