MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING

September 14, 2020

The Board meeting was held at the library and via video conference and was called to order at 7:05 PM

Board Members In attendance: Sheila Kearns, John Spencer, Laura Crosslin, Alyson Grzyb, Denise Koller, Brian Allen, Bill Henry, Betsy Habberfield
Staff: Phyllis Skidmore (Librarian), Bill Budde (Russell Collection)
Guests: None
Board Members Absent: Dave Van De Water, Judy Steron, Don Trachte, Carol Farley
There were no additions to the agenda

Minutes
-- Previous meeting’s minutes – The previous meeting’s minutes were not yet complete, so no vote took place.

Treasurer’s Report
-- Written report submitted
-- Discussion of capital funds
-- Brian would want to have a capital campaign to replace the roof when the time comes
-- Denise is not sure what the annual appeal will look like this year

Librarian’s Report
-- Written report submitted
-- Circulation is picking up somewhat
-- Still doing curbside service
-- 100 boxes for pickup
-- Had books at the Farmer’s Market the last 2 weeks
-- Craft show and basket raffle being planned by the Advocates.
-- Statistics are about normal. Some people still getting library cards. Listen Up VT higher than normal usage

Russell Collection
-- Written report submitted
-- Busy month in August – higher than usual number of queries
-- Received a check for $100
-- A request to loan a painting for use at Southern VT Art Center. Working on loan agreement. Might need a review by an attorney, perhaps John Whalen.

Adult Programming
-- Phyllis reported that on October 4 – virtual program – “400 miles down the CT River” – a narrated slide presentation given by Michael Tougias.

Old Business
-- PayPal Account: QR code, Device for App – Phyllis needs to work on the logistics of using the account. Library is set up with PayPal. Swipe devices are available for mobile devices. Discussion of options and possible mobile devices. Signed up with PayPal. No fees for a non-profit organizations.

New Business
-- Quote for handrail installation – got quote for 2 nd railing. It is $3,380 installed. No timeline was given. Goal would be to complete the work. Brian made a motion to approve the expenditure. Denise seconded. All board members present voted in favor of the motion.
-- Finance meeting is meeting on September 24th at 11AM. This is a meeting with Missy to discuss the endowment and retirement accounts.

Denise moved that we adjourn. Brian seconded. The motion was passed unanimously.
The meeting ended at 7:45 PM

Next Meeting: Monday October 5, 2020 @ 7 pm.
