MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING
February 7, 2022

The Board meeting was held at the library and via video conference and was called to order at 6:54 PM

Board Members In attendance: Betsy Habberfield, Sheila Kearns, Alyson Grzyb, John Spencer, Laura Crosslin, Don Trachte, Judy Steron, Stephannie Peters, John Hess, Peggy Hanson
Staff: Phyllis Skidmore (Librarian), Bill Budde (Russell Collection)
Guests: Dave Van De Water, Denise Koller
Board Members Absent: Brian Allen

Public comment – there were no comments

Additions to the agenda – there were no additions

Minutes

  • Previous meeting’s minutes (January) were reviewed - No corrections – Betsy moved to approve the minutes.  Laura seconded.  The minutes were approved unanimously.

 

Election of Officers:

The following slate of officers was presented:

  • President: Laura Crosslin
  • Vice President: Sheila Kearns
  • Secretary: John Spencer
  • Treasurer: Open (Denise filling in)

Betsy moved to accept the slate of officers.  Sheila seconded.  The slate was approved unanimously

Treasurer’s Report

  • No further discussion on January financials at this meeting.

 

Librarian’s Report

  • Written report was submitted in advance
  • Started purchasing based on the ARPA funds.
  • Sold a few more books in January.
  • Better World picked up 80 boxes of books.
  • Puzzle exchange was busy. Next one Feb 19.
  • Holly making “Make and Take” bags for those not in JISP
  • Sheila asked about the new e-Book and audio books initiative. Phyllis will pass along more info as it comes out. Sheila would like to help however she can.

Russell Collection

  • Written report submitted.
  • A couple of additions follow.
    • Remember Baker event
    • Working on the Walking Tour and other events with the Arlington Commons.
    • Waiting for the new scanner.
    • Volunteer to rebind the Kelly Stand documents once it is scanned.


Adult Programming

  • No updates in this area.

 

Gallery Committee

  • Dave discussed the calendar he sent out a few days ago.
  • It was planned out in 2-month blocks
  • Sending out a press release soon
  • Dave would like to make some improvements to the gallery but thinks it could be done for $500 or so. He will get a firmer budget in place and get approval before proceeding.
  • All art will be for sale. The Gallery / Library gets a 25% commission on all sales
  • John H. asked if we had any local Chambers of Commerce contacts? He had an event that was allowed on the Chamber’s calendar. Dave said he is working on getting on as many calendars as possible.

 

New Business

  • Laura asked if anyone was interested in spearheading groundskeeping and building maintenance.
  • There is a Farmer’s Marketing again this year. Some non-profit organizations allowed again. Bruce asked about selling books there.  In the past we have had free books for kids and cookbooks for sale.  The market is at the same time the library is open, so Phyllis needs assistance.  The Advocates will likely participate again.

Old Business

  • No old business.

Laura moved we adjourn.  Stephannie seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:33 PM
